Well it was definitely
another interesting week in the NFL. You start off with the New
England Patriots who were going for their 19th straight win. The
streak started early last year and carried on through the playoffs and Super
Bowl. This season started with another three wins which tied them with
a few other teams for the record of 18 straight wins. They had the
opportunity to set a new record at 19 on Sunday against the Dolphins.
The Miami Dolphins were on of the teams that they were tied with at 18 and
the only team to ever go undefeated throughout a season. This team was
no where near the Dolphins team of '72, though, and are actually one of the
worst teams in the league. Despite out gaining the Patriots by more
than 100 yards, the Dolphins could not keep the Patriots away from setting
their new record. The Jets also rolled this week to leave them as one of only three teams still undefeated and the least likely of the three. On the flip-side, the 49er's got out of the hole with their first win, which places them alongside 9 other teams with only one win. It could be worse, though. The AFC EAST is home to the only two teams still without a win, the Dolphins and the Bills. The Giants looked good again this week in one of the biggest surprises so far this year. If Kurt Warner can keep them winning, they could end up with a Wild Card birth in the playoffs, because there is no way they will beat the Eagles. Another Surprise came from the Lions. One of the worst teams over the past few years, they look like they may gave the chance to at least compete again and possibly even make a run at the playoffs. The team that the Lions beat on Sunday, the Falcons, showed that they were flawed. They picked up their first loss to the upstart Lions. The game was a close one, but the Falcons could not overcome the spunk of the young Lions. In another upset, the Rams showed that they were not dead this season. After the Seahawks went up by a few touchdowns early, it looked like they would run away with the game. When they let up a bit, though, the high octane Rams came flying back. They quickly put points on the board, including 17 in the 4th quarter to tie the game and send it into overtime. In overtime, the Rams continued to roll and scored a quick touchdown to give them the win. The win put them back into contention for the NFC WEST and could be huge in the future with the Seahawks currently in the lead in their division. In the Late game on Sunday, the Redskins jumped out to an early 10 point lead and held the Ravens scoreless in the first half. However, the Ravens came back after the half, scoring two touchdowns in the 3rd and holding the Redskins scoreless in the second half. The final was Baltimore Ravens 17 - Washington Redskins 10. The Monday night game was never close. The Titans came out and showed that they still have the ability to compete and go to the playoffs this year. The offense was sharp, with the starting running back gaining 148 yards on the ground and McNair, injured sternum and all, looking as crisp as the co-MVP from last year. They decimated the Packer defense and added insult to injury in the forth quarter by completing a screen to a wide receiver, who through a pass for a touchdown. The Titan defense looked strong through most of the game, gobbling up Favre interceptions, even with one of them taken away with a bad instant replay overturn. Tennessee jumped up 17-0 and never looked back as the went on to pummel the Green Bay Packers 48-27 .
