Organ Piper Pizza

This was a restaurant that I had been looking to try out ever since I first saw it a day or two after arriving in Milwaukee.  The restaurant sits sideways on a main road which I use about every other week.  So, with Tim and Marisa doing their own thing for the night, I decided to check it out between buying my November parking sticker and picking up some things at Wal-Mart.

When I entered the building, I was immediately hit with the live organ music coming from just inside.  There was a man playing a huge organ across from me.  I noticed a sign stating to seat yourself and quickly grabbed a booth along the near wall.  After looking over the paper menu for a moment, I noticed that you didn’t get waited on either.  You had to go to the counter along the far wall to place your order.  So, deciding on a small pepperoni and a Coke, I made my way over.  I quickly ordered and got a stub with number 50 on it, the last number on the sign that would light up when the order in question was ready.  I also got a drink ticket, which I immediately stepped down the bar to receive.  It only took about 8 minutes or so for the pizza to be ready and in the meantime I listened to the organ player perform such songs as “Under the Sea” from The Little Mermaid, the song from the Six Flags commercial, and the song I was truly hoping he would play this close to Halloween, Toccata and Fugue.

I went up and grabbed my pizza and sat down with it at the table.  I normally never burn myself on food, as I am patient enough to wait for it to cool before eating, but It didn’t seem like this was that hot, until I took a bite and the cheese came away in a big topping blob onto my lip.  After swallowing it down, I waited a few more minutes before continuing my meal.  It was a thin crust pizza, which I usually don’t go for, but it wasn’t too crisp to enjoy.  The sauce was also pretty good and they used the mini pepperoni instead of the normal size.  With it being thin and a small, I was actually able to take the whole pizza in one sitting, therefore not needing to go build my own to go box from the bar.

Overall it was an enjoyable experience.  The organ player was one of three that does the job and all have done it professionally in the past.  One even did the Brewers game for years.  The pizza was surprisingly good as well.  It was one of the better thin crust pizzas that I have had in years.  It seemed like a great place for groups or party’s with long lined tables and drinks available in pitchers as well as cups.  For one or two people it is an interesting departure from the norm, but not something that I would do often alone.  However, if in the area, the pizza was good enough to come back for, so I may be back at some point.
